Sink or swim at Los Italianos

The statues are quite thought provoking...and why is he wrestling a goat naked...and with horns none the less?
We are adjusting to Spanish time and in particular Granada time (which is even slower due to the heat).  One of the ways we deal the heat is by eating a cool gelato at the end of the day.  "Los Italianos" is the local's favorite.  Many locals felt the need to tell us that MICHELLE OBAMA had gelato here a couple weeks ago when the Obama family was in southern Spain on "holiday".  So of course we decided that we must frequent this place!

Gelato seems to be the key not only in a child's psychological well-being, but their ability to acquire a second language, as well. However, there's a catch to getting gelato and as Myles noted in the first blog, it entails stepping out of one's comfort zone.  Ever heard the phrase "sink or swim" when it comes to learning a second language?  Frankly, the boys are sinking at this point and would starve if I weren't here but, each day they improve.  It's exciting to see how their language skills grow with much repetition and time and become more comfortable with their surroundings.  It also helps when everyone is always so kind and calling you "guapo" (handsome) and patting your head.

So, I thought I would share a scene from Los Italianos that is just a smidgen of what Myles and Owen go through multiple times each day. Sometimes the boys tell me they'd rather starve than try to communicate, but usually I can get them to talk...somehow, someway. Interestingly enough, Owen, who is our quiet guy, is quite the linguist!  It most likely has to do with his age and his easy going nature.  Myles is more self conscientious of himself which I feel so bad about at times.  He needs to lighten up and not be so scared of making a mistake.  It's not like the Spaniards are going to beat him if he says the wrong word...

More Chisholm quote updates:

"Is it siesta time or fiesta time now?"
"You're in Vespa heaven, aren't you, Mom?"
"Do we have to walk, AGAIN?"
"Sir Farts-a-lot has just attacked the Moors in the Alhambra!"
"Is that where the princess lives?" (pointing to high tower above Alhambra)

Sir Farts-a-lot entering the Bib Rambla on a quest.
Enjoy!  We love hearing from you all.  Pass the post on to whomever you think might enjoy it!

I'm having difficulty uploading the video to this blog so, if you can't see it below PLEASE check out the link.  I think you'll find it a bit amusing.  I'll post more scenic photos next time.
